* The word Reiki (pronounced Ray-Key) is a Japanese term for universal life force energy. In Japan they call Universal life force "Ki". In China, they call it "Chi" and in India they call it "Prana"
*Reiki is a Japanese holistic, light touch, energy based modality which functions as a support mechanism to the body to enhance and accelerate the body's innate healing ability.
*Through a series of hand positions either directly on or just a few inches above the body, the Reiki practitioner allows for the flow of energy through their body. The client's body then draws off the amount of energy that is required.
* Reiki is believed to have existed thousands of years ago before Mikao Usui rediscovered it. There are several different theories about where Reiki came from "The stars, Lemuria, Atlantis, etc.
* Mikao Usui came from a wealthy family and was well travelled and educated. He studied medicine, psychology, religion, spiritual development, martial arts and Qi Gong.
* In 1914, Mikao Usui became a Buddhist monk at the age of 49. During his Buddhist training, he was meditating on Mt. Kumara when he had a mystical experience of the Reiki energy entering his Crown Chakra.
* This Reiki energy gave him the power to heal without depleting his own energy and his abilities to heal others after was greatly enhanced. His reputation as a great healer spread quickly throughout Japan.
*In 1922, he put the Reiki Ideals, the Reiki Symbols and the attunement process together, calling it "The Usui System of Natural Healing".
